From Race Day to Community Impact: Brecon Athletic Club Supports the Community Kit Room

Aneurin Leisure Trust’s Sports Development Team wishes to express its sincere thanks to Brecon Athletic Club and all participants of the Llanfrynach 3-4-5 Mile Road Race Series, for their generous donations of pre-loved sportswear and footwear to the Community Kit Room.

The race series took place over three events, beginning with the 3-mile race on 5th May, followed by the 4-mile race on 19th May, and concluding with the 5-mile race on 2nd June. Throughout the series, runners and supporters were encouraged to donate unwanted sports clothing and footwear, helping to support local people in accessing sport, physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

Representatives from Aneurin Leisure Trust’s Sports Development Team recently welcomed Annabel Harford, Chair of Brecon Athletic Club, and the club's Social Media Coordinator, Cara Perfrement, to Abertillery Sports Centre to receive the donations in person and showcase the impact the Community Kit Room is having across the local area.

Speaking about the club's decision to support the initiative, Annabel Harford said:

"I first saw the Community Kit Room being highlighted by Sport Wales last year and was really inspired by the difference it was making within communities. As a club, we felt it was a fantastic initiative that aligned with our values, and we wanted to play our part in helping more people access sport and physical activity. The Llanfrynach Road Race Series provided the perfect opportunity for our members and participants to get involved and support such a worthwhile cause."

The Community Kit Room provides free access to donated sportswear and footwear for individuals and families who may face barriers to participation due to the cost of kit. The initiative relies entirely on donations from clubs, organisations and members of the public to remain sustainable.

Community Sports Development Officer Cameron Herring expressed his gratitude for the support received from Brecon Athletic Club and the race participants.

"These donations will make a genuine difference to many people within our community. Access to appropriate sportswear and footwear can often be a barrier to participation, and initiatives like the Community Kit Room help remove those barriers. Every donation received helps someone take their next step into sport, physical activity or a healthier lifestyle. We are incredibly grateful to Brecon Athletic Club and to all those who donated to the appeal."

The contribution from Brecon Athletic Club will help ensure the Community Kit Room can continue supporting those of all ages and abilities within our local communities, providing quality sporting kit to those who need it most while promoting sustainability through the reuse of sportswear items.

We hope everyone who took part in the series enjoyed the races and had a fantastic experience throughout all three events, and our thanks again for your generous donations.
