A Community Brought Together Through Wellbeing, Warmth and Wonderful Partnerships

The recent Wellbeing Concert at the Georgetown Community Hub was a shining example of what happens when a community comes together with joy, kindness and a shared passion for supporting one another. Held on 29th January, the event was organised by Happy Healthy Blaenau Gwent, bringing residents of all ages together for an afternoon filled with music, connection and smiles.

Thanks to funding from Aneurin Leisure Trust and a Warm Space Grant from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, the concert created a welcoming space where everyone could relax, enjoy themselves, and feel part of something special. The uplifting atmosphere was set by the fantastic Kelly Ann Wyatt, whose performance had people dancing, laughing and celebrating community spirit.

The event was also made possible through the support of Thriving Communities CIC, who helped in securing the singer and providing the raffle prizes. A whole network of brilliant partner organisations worked side-by-side on the day, including the Wellbeing Coaches from HHBG, Age Cymru, Men’s Den, the Blaenau Gwent Wellbeing Friends Network, Activate Blaenau Gwent, BG Food Partnership and the You’re Never Alone men’s group. Some of the refreshments were supplied by The Food Bank provision at 1, The Circle, Tredegar.  Their teamwork ensured the event was not only enjoyable, but also meaningful, offering people a chance to access guidance and wellbeing advice in a friendly, informal setting.

Almost 100 community members attended — a testament to the power of partnership and the strong social connections that run through Blaenau Gwent. Many people travelled from other towns to be part of the day, including residents from Blaina who were brought along by friends when transport wasn’t available. These small acts of kindness helped form new friendships and reinforced the message that no one is ever alone in this community.

A special highlight was the involvement of Rianna James, Miss Teen Wales Finalist 2026, who came straight after school to volunteer with refreshments and the raffle. Her energy and commitment added even more positivity to an already joyful afternoon.

With dancing, delicious cake, happy faces and a wonderful sense of togetherness, the event truly showcased what wellbeing looks like when a whole community plays a part: connection, kindness, music, and mutual support.

And for those who want to continue that sense of belonging, things return to normal next week with the Keeping Well Café, held every Thursday at 3.30pm — offering a cuppa, a chat, and plenty of good advice.
