Support, Spaces, and Savings: Benefits for Young Carers Across Aneurin Leisure Trust

Aneurin Leisure Trust is taking meaningful steps to support one of the most selfless yet often overlooked groups in our community, young carers. These are young people who dedicate their time and energy to caring for a family member, often juggling school, responsibilities at home, and their own personal wellbeing. Their role is crucial, and it deserves recognition, respect, and support.

Aneurin Leisure Trust is committed to improving the lives of young carers through a wide range of support initiatives. Driven by our core mission to improve community life, the Trust recognises the importance of creating inclusive, accessible spaces where young carers can recharge, learn, and thrive.

Working closely with the Blaenau Gwent Young Carers team, Aneurin Leisure Trust offers a variety of exclusive benefits designed to support the health, wellbeing, and personal development of young carers. These benefits are available with a valid young carers ID card, which serves as proof of eligibility.

At its heart, Aneurin Leisure Trust is more than a provider of leisure and learning, it is a community builder. Through inclusive, meaningful initiatives like these, the Trust ensures that young carers are recognised, supported, and given space to thrive.

Over recent months, young carer's have been getting hands-on with nature through a range of fun and rewarding gardening activities. Working alongside the Families First and Parc Bryn Bach grounds maintenance team, they’ve been building bird boxes, planting seeds, and creating beautiful hanging baskets. These sessions have not only helped brighten up the park but have also given the young carers a chance to upskill, learn about the environment, and enjoy some well-deserved time outdoors, connecting with nature and each other.

Adam Hughes, community engagement officer for the Trust explained: “Young carers give so much of themselves to support their loved ones.  It’s our responsibility and our privilege to give back to them.”

If you're a young carer or know someone who is, and would like to find out more about these support options, please contact Adam Hughes at adam.hughes@aneurinleisure.org.uk.

Together, we can continue to build a Blaenau Gwent where every young person feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
